Overview

RIVAS Real Mexican Grill, tucked away on California City Boulevard, is a modest gem for authentic Mexican flavors in a remote stretch of California City. The restaurant offers a warm, clean dining space that feels both inviting and approachable, ideal for locals and travelers craving genuine Mexican fare in a casual setting.

The menu centers on classic favorites like quesadillas, fajitas, and tortas, each crafted with attention to traditional ingredients and vibrant flavors. Their fajitas stand out, served with perfectly cooked meats, fresh vegetables, and soft corn tortillas, delivering a hearty, satisfying experience. Equally noteworthy are their carnitas and carne asada specialties, especially visible through their popular nachos and fries that come well-seasoned and served at just the right temperature.

Signature drinks, notably the horchata and the celebrated Jamaica, offer refreshing, authentic touches that complement the food superbly. The salsa bar is a thoughtful addition, providing both green and red salsas along with pickled carrots to balance and enhance the dishes.

Customer experiences highlight a mix of highs and lows, with most patrons praising the food quality and portions — hearty, flavorful, and generous. Service, however, appears to fluctuate; some reviews mention friendly, efficient staff, while others describe moments of less attentive or dismissive interactions. Nonetheless, the kitchen’s consistency shines through, often winning back repeat visits. Those seeking traditional Mexican comfort food with genuine homestyle preparation will find RIVAS to be a satisfying stop.

The location makes it a convenient venue for riders, travelers, and locals looking for a reliable spot to enjoy hearty Mexican meals outside of crowded city centers. The space itself favors practicality over polish but maintains cleanliness and a welcoming atmosphere suitable for casual dining.

Overall, RIVAS Real Mexican Grill targets customers who appreciate real Mexican cooking without pretense — robust, straightforward dishes paired with lively beverages and a down-to-earth vibe. It’s a solid pick for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Mexico in California City, with room for continued growth in customer service to match the culinary strengths.

Great deals and I love the ice and Jamaica. Service leaves much to be desired Spent about $60 in the last 2 day there. The salad has stale chips added to it. I called to let them know, did not request a new salad, and still enjoyed it. Today I decided to try it again, without the chips and also got a burrito. Burrito was soggy and the inside of the bag was wet. When I called, the lovely cashier let me know the burrito was fine, it was something I’d done to cause that, but she would talk to the cook I told her thank you, be blessed, we will dry the burrito off with a paper towel. Unable to chew the chicken that topped the salad today. the horchata was delicious, we won’t return for impolite service, though. God Bless *edited* I appreciate the response, have since been back. Everything has been perfect. The Chef here cooks to well to stay away! The Jamaica is fire, too! Chicken burrito add rice and beans IS THE BOMB!!

Out in California City Riding dirt bikes. Was a little hung over during the week. Hoped and prayed they sold menudo during the week. Score! Some of the best menudo I've had anywhere. My wife got the chicken fingers I believe and they were amazing as well. Will definitely be back to try other options.

Nice little place on a remote area. Staff was nice and the dining area was clean. We had the carne asada fries and the carnitas nachos. Both were delicious and perfect temperature. The horchata was a bit too sweet but that was fixed with extra ice. Their salsa bar has both green and red salsa even pickled carrots. There open late and you can order it for pickup.
